Address API Suites From USPS

The United States Postal Service offers three types of address API suites. These are Address Validation API, NCOA Address Verification, and CASS Point of Entry API.

USPS’s Address Database

The USPS has a very large address database that covers all of the United States. This database includes information about every single delivery point in the country, including business and residential addresses, post office box deliveries, and much more.

These address databases are very accurate and up-to-date, and they have a lot of finer details that any private address database can’t. That’s why they are a great source of validation data.

However, even though the USPS’s database is very large, it isn’t entirely free. There are also a few things that can cause it to break down and become invalid.

For instance, there can be a mismatch in postal codes between the address and the zip code. This can lead to problems when integrating with third-party shipping providers.

Moreover, the USPS’s address database has some limitations. Some fields have character limits that are difficult to fit in a shipping label.

This is especially true for the Address 1 field, which can be as long as 35 characters. To avoid this, you can either append the missing zip or state codes, or use an address verification web service like ours that breaks the input address into fragment parts and leverages them to fit the character limit.

Another advantage of using an address verification service is that it takes user input errors into account, and makes adjustments to the input data. This makes the process faster and more reliable.
